It doesn't seem necessary to specifically define the general term "bird," but it can give any birder greater appreciation for the animals they enjoy watching. By understanding what all birds have in common, we can better appreciate, appreciate, and enjoy the individual traits that make each bird species unique. As we become more aware of these differences, we become better bird watchers and are well on our way to seeing the hundreds or thousands of unique bird species in the world.
