London is surprisingly good for birdlife due to its rich diversity of habitats which include forests, grasslands, farmland, lakes, rivers, reservoirs, estuaries and tidal flats. There are also more than a hundred nature reserves and open spaces, ranging from small local reserves to vast expanses such as Hampstead Heath, Epping Forest and world-class man-made reserves such as the London Wetlands Centre.
