The inaugural meeting of the Cornwall Bird Watching and Conservation Society was held in Truro on 17 January 1931, where it was unanimously decided to form a society. Lieutenant Colonel Rives outlined the ideas he had in mind when he hoped that the Cornwall Birders Association could be formed. This was clearly stated in an appeal published in the Western Morning News on October 3, 1930. It was unanimously decided to form a society under the given guidelines and Lady Vivian was elected President, Lt. Cabbage. B.H. Ryves and Mr. G.H. Honorary secretary with Harvey and honorary treasurer Mr. C. Nicholson. The following were also elected members of the Executive Committee: Lady Vivian, Mrs Bues, Major John Williams and Mr A.C.
