Environment and Climate Change Canada is committed to working with partners both within Canada and internationally to help conserve the diversity and abundance of migratory birds in Canada. Understanding the current state of bird populations is an important tool for their conservation, especially when combined with information about how these populations have changed in recent years. Summarizing the results of Canada's many bird population monitoring programs, this website identifies the current population status of each species, describes the most pressing conservation issues for each species, and provides a mechanism for tracking progress in Canadian bird monitoring. We also offer long-term population targets for most species, both as a conservation goal and as a tool for measuring the success of ongoing conservation efforts.
